NEXT GENERATION TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT

COLORADO CENTER

DENVER, CO

REFOCUSING A COMMERCIAL DESTINATION ALONG LIGHT RAIL

Originally built in 1999 as an office and entertainment destination, the next generation of Colorado Center focuses on creating a mixed-use hub supported by transit. Three principles helped guide the design process:

1. Creating quality streetscapes and open spaces
2. Balancing automobile use and other modes of transit with the needs of pedestrians
3. Combining a mix of uses to create a safe and dynamic community.
The result was a mix of entertainment, residential, office and commercial uses anchored by a pedestrian-oriented main street. With open space at a premium, fountains, planting and paving came together to create a variety of spaces designed to encourage a range of activities.
